In 2007, the State of Colorado established a connection to the National Human Trafficking Support Hotline  (NHTRH) due to increased concern about cases rising in the State.  Human trafficking in Colorado has been reported for three reasons: Sex trafficking, labor, or both.

Since 2007, there have been a total  of 443 cases and 518 victims reported  on the National Human Trafficking Hotline (NHTRH).  Calls to the hotline have totaled 1726 received since 2007.  Since December 31, 2016, 120 cases have been reported. The NHTRH reports calls related to Colorado of 85 cases  concerned with sex trafficking, 21 cases of labor trafficking, and 7 cases involving both sex and labor.   Predominantly female cases are reported at 95 cases, compared to 18 cases involving males.  Most are adults, 90 cases, but there are 24 cases involving minors.

Within Colorado, the  Colorado Network to End Human Trafficking (CoNEHT) is a 24/7  works with Laboratory to Combat Human Trafficking (LCHT), in partnership with Colorado Legal Services (CLS) and the Rocky Mountain Immigration Advocacy Network (RMIAN) to provide services within the State.  This is a volunteer effort that is committed to making a difference in Colorado.

In Denver, an organization,  Extended Hands of Hope – Avanti House, a charity owned by Phyllis Allen, was created in 2015 to give victims of sex trafficking a safe place to stay. Victims may stay for either a short or long term.  Originally, Avanti House was established to help girls ages 12-17, who have been victims of sex trafficking.  There is a shortage of housing for girls in this age group in the Denver area.

An individual’s decision to intervene could change lives.  If you or someone you know could be a victim of human trafficking, call the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-373-7888, the Colorado Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-866-455-5075.  An email to [email protected] can also direct a caller for immediate help today.
